Global Wilms Tumor Initiative™ (GWTI) & South Korea

As part of the Global Wilms Tumor Initiative (GWTI), the Wilms Cancer Foundation is working with healthcare professionals, patient advocates, families, support organizations, and other stakeholders in South Korea to strengthen awareness, education, patient support, parent support, healthcare professional resources, and long-term outcomes for children affected by Wilms tumor. These activities form part of the foundation's broader mission to improve access to trusted childhood kidney cancer information, promote earlier diagnosis, strengthen survivorship care, and improve outcomes for children with Wilms tumor and their families worldwide.

South Korea is recognized for its advanced healthcare system, highly developed pediatric oncology services, and strong commitment to medical innovation. Through collaboration with diverse stakeholders across the country, the Global Wilms Tumor Initiative (GWTI) aims to help expand access to Wilms tumor educational resources, family support services, healthcare professional education, survivorship information, advocacy activities, and international knowledge-sharing opportunities.

These efforts are being undertaken alongside the Wilms Cancer Foundation's broader international collaborations and engagement within the global childhood cancer community, including its partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and its support for the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC). By aligning local activities with broader global childhood cancer priorities, the initiative seeks to contribute to ongoing efforts to improve early diagnosis, treatment access, survivorship support, healthcare capacity building, and the quality of care provided to children affected by cancer worldwide.

This collaboration represents an important milestone in the development of Wilms tumor awareness and support activities in South Korea. The initiative is considered to be among the first coordinated international efforts specifically focused on supporting children with Wilms tumor, parents, caregivers, survivors, healthcare professionals, and advocacy organizations through a comprehensive childhood kidney cancer program. By bringing together local and international expertise, the initiative aims to strengthen the Wilms tumor community while enhancing awareness, education, support, and healthcare engagement throughout the country.

Through the Global Wilms Tumor Initiative (GWTI), the Wilms Cancer Foundation will continue to explore opportunities to expand partnerships, establish collaborative agreements, develop educational programs, build digital health resources, provide artificial intelligence (AI)-based support services, and increase healthcare engagement activities throughout South Korea. These efforts form part of a long-term commitment to raising awareness of Wilms tumor, strengthening childhood cancer support networks, and helping ensure that children and families affected by Wilms tumor have access to the information, resources, and support they need at every stage of the cancer journey.

글로벌 윌름스종양 이니셔티브(GWTI)와 대한민국

 

글로벌 윌름스종양 이니셔티브(Global Wilms Tumor Initiative, GWTI)의 일환으로, 윌름스 암 재단(Wilms Cancer Foundation)은 대한민국의 의료 전문가, 환자 옹호자, 가족, 지원 단체 및 기타 이해관계자들과 협력하여 윌름스종양에 영향을 받는 아동들을 위한 인식 제고, 교육, 환자 지원, 부모 지원, 의료 전문가 자원, 그리고 장기적인 치료 결과 향상을 위해 노력하고 있습니다. 이러한 활동은 신뢰할 수 있는 소아 신장암 정보에 대한 접근성을 개선하고, 조기 진단을 촉진하며, 생존자 관리(survivorship care)를 강화하고, 전 세계 윌름스종양 환아와 가족들의 치료 결과를 향상시키고자 하는 재단의 광범위한 사명의 일부를 이루고 있습니다.

대한민국은 선진적인 의료 시스템, 높은 수준의 소아종양학 서비스, 그리고 의료 혁신에 대한 강한 의지를 갖춘 국가로 인정받고 있습니다. 전국의 다양한 이해관계자들과의 협력을 통해 글로벌 윌름스종양 이니셔티브(GWTI)는 윌름스종양 관련 교육 자료, 가족 지원 서비스, 의료 전문가 교육, 생존자 정보, 옹호 활동, 그리고 국제적 지식 공유 기회에 대한 접근성을 확대하는 데 기여하고자 합니다.

이러한 노력은 세계 소아암 공동체 내에서의 윌름스 암 재단의 광범위한 국제 협력 및 참여 활동과 함께 추진되고 있으며, 세계보건기구(WHO)와의 협력 관계 및 국제 소아암 이니셔티브(Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer, GICC)에 대한 지원을 포함합니다. 지역 활동을 보다 광범위한 글로벌 소아암 우선 과제와 연계함으로써, 본 이니셔티브는 조기 진단, 치료 접근성 향상, 생존자 지원, 의료 역량 강화, 그리고 전 세계 암 환아들을 위한 의료 서비스의 질 향상을 위한 지속적인 노력에 기여하고자 합니다.

이번 협력은 대한민국 내 윌름스종양 인식 제고 및 지원 활동 발전에 있어 중요한 이정표를 의미합니다. 본 이니셔티브는 윌름스종양 환아, 부모, 보호자, 생존자, 의료 전문가 및 옹호 단체를 포괄적인 소아 신장암 프로그램을 통해 지원하는 데 중점을 둔 최초의 국제적 협력 노력 중 하나로 평가됩니다. 지역 및 국제 전문가들의 지식을 결집함으로써, 본 이니셔티브는 대한민국 전역에서 윌름스종양 공동체를 강화하고 인식, 교육, 지원 및 의료 참여를 증진하는 데 기여하고자 합니다.

글로벌 윌름스종양 이니셔티브(GWTI)를 통해 윌름스 암 재단은 대한민국 전역에서 파트너십 확대, 협력 협약 체결, 교육 프로그램 개발, 디지털 헬스 자원 구축, 인공지능(AI) 기반 지원 서비스 제공, 그리고 의료 참여 활동 확대를 위한 기회를 지속적으로 모색할 것입니다. 이러한 노력은 윌름스종양에 대한 인식을 높이고, 소아암 지원 네트워크를 강화하며, 윌름스종양의 영향을 받는 아동과 가족들이 암 치료 여정의 모든 단계에서 필요한 정보, 자원 및 지원에 접근할 수 있도록 보장하기 위한 장기적인 약속의 일환입니다.
